Transnational conference in Naples

[21/05/2010]

On 18 May the transnational conference on migrant and posted workers was held in Naples, within the framework of the ‘Decent Work & Industrial Relations’ project. The conference was hosted by CGIL and organized by SOLIDAR, alongside PROGETTO SVILUPPO and IRES gathered trade unions affiliates and several migrants’ associations, coping with several issues around working conditions.

Trade union representatives from CGIL and employers representatives from CONFINDUSTRIA and the Italian Association of Builders (ANCE) discussed not only the proposals drafted by IRES and SOLIDAR on how to enhance migrant and posted workers rights, but also the peculiarity of the Italian situation where the xenophobic behaviour of Italian government and the organised crime infiltration further threaten migrant working conditions.

Sam Hägglund, secretary general of the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers, and Samuel Engblom, legal advisor of the Swedish Confederation for Professional Employees, expressed their views making the event very fruitful and raising hope on possible improvements of working conditions around Europe.
