SOLIDAR contributes to EP report on atypical contracts, flexicurity and social dialogue [25/06/2010]
The report covers a broad range of issues in response to trends in labour law and developments in economy and labour markets across the whole Europe, amplified by the crisis, which entails the risk that an increasing share of employment falls under precarious working conditions and/or is now longer appropriately covered by social dialogue.
Several amendments were suggested by SOLIDAR, building on our insights and recommendations developed in the framework of our project ‘Decent Work & Industrial Relations’. The amendments aim at setting up or defending framework conditions and measures to promote inclusive labour markets, safeguarding decent work for all and extending the coverage by collective bargaining. In early June, most of these amendments were taken up in a compromise.
Now, the report, which will be discussed in the EP plenary in July, refers explicitly to decent work and quality employment, calling for a balanced implementation of flexicurity principles and for equal treatment of workers across different sorts of contracts. Also, it emphasises on a maximum of workers’ protection with special support for people who are disadvantaged on the labour market.
