Debate on the re-launch of the single market

Over the past few months, new initiatives have sparked debate on the re-launch of the single market. The first initiative is a report delivered by former Commissioner Mario Monti in May 2010. The report analyses the risks and challenges for the single market, it draws a map of the expectations and concerns and suggests various initiatives. The second initiative is the EP report ‘Delivering a single market to consumers and citizens’ by Louis Grech (S&D, Malta). The report calls for an increased balance with on one side an economy stimulating economic growth and job creation and on the other an economy providing consumer protection and social and environmental safeguards to citizens, a demand also shared by SOLIDAR.
