Social Europe campaign 2006-2008

SOLIDAR Conference on Social Europe 2008
SOLIDAR and its French members and the 'Maison de l'Europe' jointly organised a conference on Social Europe on 25 June 2008 in Paris. The conference discussed two main issues: (Social) Services of General Interest and Decent Work and Decent Life/Building Inclusive Societies. This conference was a unique opportunity for SOLIDAR members to gather their forces together before the start of the French EU Presidency to create a joint resolution on Social Europe which was circulated to French EU Presidency, the future Czech and Swedish Presidencies, EU institutions and other stakeholders. Read the Resolution and Background Paper and read the Conference Report.

SOS Europe campaign 2006-2007
In the frame of the SOS Europe Campaign, SOLIDAR organised two conferences together with member organisations, "SOS Europe – A vision for the future"  in cooperation with Volkshilfe in Vienna, Austria in 2006 and "SOS Europe Experiencing Europe – strong, social and just" in cooperation with, Arbeiter Samariterbund (ASB) Germany and Arbeiterwohlfahrt Bundesverband (AWO) in Berlin, Germany in 2007. The aim of this campaign was to raise awareness on the importance of the European Social Model among policy makers and campaigners. The outcomes of the Berlin conference formed the basis of a statement sent by SOLIDAR to Heads of State and government before the Spring European Council in 2007 stressing the need to "send out a strong signal for a more social Europe" and urged EU leaders to use the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome to make a commitment to a Europe focused on people rather than business.
