Yesterday evening, on 13 October 2016, the official launch of SDG Watch Europe took place at the representation of North Rhine Westphalia. Frans Timmermans, European Commission First Vice President, opened the launch, taking inspiration from one of Bob Dylan’s most famous songs: “How many times, must nations agree, before the SDGs, are mainstreamed into EU policy?”. SDG Watch Europe is a new EU cross-sectoral alliance of civil society organisations working together to ensure implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 by the United Nations. SOLIDAR Secretary General Conny Reuter took part in the panel discussion where he reflected on an EU-wide applicable set of common and high-level social safeguards as an indispensable element to empower people, construct a social union and achieve the goals set by the 2030 agenda.
