Jobs Jobs Jobs Project

Carried out with the financial support of the European Commission's EuropeAid.

Between 2006 and 2008, SOLIDAR managed the Jobs Jobs Jobs project on development education, aimed to demonstrate that Decent Work is fundamental for development and the eradication of poverty.

Decent Work is a concept developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO), and supported by trade unions and other civil society organisations. It brings together the quantity of employment with the quality of the employment created. The main elements of Decent Work are employment creation, workers’ rights, social protection and social dialogue.

A key component of the project has been the development of 8 case studies in countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America as well as 4 briefings on key topics. The briefings provide examples of the link between Decent Work and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals which range from halving extreme poverty to providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 and provide an analysis of the link between the Decent Work agenda and other EU policy areas. The case studies continue to feed a wide range of advocacy activities including seminars and campaign materials in different European countries.

The project was supported by the EU and coordinated by:
SOLIDAR together with member organisations
Progetto Sviluppo, Olof Palme Center, War on Want.

Other organisations involved:
l’Istituto sindacale per la cooperazione allo sviluppo (
ISCOS), One World Action, the Johannes Mickelson Center, and four Global Network  partners – PLADES (Programa Laboral de Desarrollo)  in Peru, Labor Education and Research Network (LEARN)  in The Philippines, Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) in India, and Labour Research Service (LRS) in South Africa.
