An International Labour Organisation for the 21st Century: ITUC petition for a new social contract

This year (2019), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) celebrates its 100th anniversary. At its annual conference starting on 10 June, governments, workers and employers will come together to negotiate the ILO’s Centennial Declaration.

The Declaration is a real opportunity to call for a new social contract that works for all ordinary working people.

In this context, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has launched a petition calling for a New Social Contract that ensures:

Rights for all workers, whatever employment arrangements they have.

Fairer wages, including minimum wages on which people can live a decent life.

More control for people over their working time and more oversight over their bosses to make sure they can’t discriminate or evade responsibilities and that builds justice into the climate and technology transition.
