With a background in Middle Eastern studies and sociology, Giorgia is a communication expert through practice.
Before landing in Brussels in 2019, she gained research and communications experience at the prestigious Italian think-tank, ISPI – Italian Institute for International Political Studies. She then joined the European Civic Forum (ECF), a network of civil society organizations based in Brussels and discovered her keen interest in civil society and civic space issues. During her time at ECF, she oversaw the monitoring of the state of civic space in Europe through the platform Civic Space Watch and writing updates on fundamental freedoms in 8 EU countries for the CIVICUS Monitor.
She then joined the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) and with the Comms team, worked on promoting the important work EED partners carry out in the EU neighborhood, focusing, particularly, on the Middle East. For EED, she co-edited the Annual Report and interviewed several EED grantees writing stories about them for EED special series, #FirstPersonStory.
Now she is back to the field she felt closer to and ready to make a difference in the fight for Social Justice!
At SOLIDAR, Giorgia will implement the communication strategy of the organization in relation to the new organizational strategy for the period 2021-2025, she will be in charge of the social media channels, be present in relevant networks at the European level, and support the pillars’ outreach with events and campaigns.
“We are very pleased to welcome Giorgia to our small family, and I really look forward to advancing our work and efforts for a just transition towards social justice together!”, says Mikael Leyi, Secretary General.
