Congratulations to Piotr Sadowski the New Social Platform President

SOLIDAR congratulates Piotr Sadowski, the newly elected president of Social Platform. Piotr Sadowski is a long-standing friend of SOLIDAR network. Piotr is the Secretary General of Volonteurope and the Head of International Affairs for our UK member Volunteering Matters since 2008. Over the years we have had the opportunity to work closely together on many occasions. Piotr has helped keep volunteering on our agenda as a means of contributing to building community and social justice.

SOLIDAR is delighted that such a close friend and ally has now taken on this new role, which shows that despite the Brexit deadlock we will continue our cooperation with our British members and partners.

During his career Piotr has actively worked to promote social justice and participatory democracy through volunteering and active citizenship. At SOLIDAR we are sure that Piotr will be an ally for continuing the great work of Social Platform to advocate for the implementation of the Pillar of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, fighting discrimination and putting the social agenda at the centre of EU policy making.

Piotr is originally from Poland, but has now lived in the UK for more than half of his life. He has a background in Economics and Business Management, while his personal involvement with volunteering dates back to when he was a teenager, when he joined, as a volunteer, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. While studying at the London School of Economics, he volunteered with a charity providing education to terminally‐ill children and after completing his degree he began working with the non-profit sector.

SOLIDAR also wants to congratulate the other elected members of the Social Platform Management Committee 2019-2021: Catherine Naughton, Director of the European Disability Forum and Maciej Kucharczyk from AGE Platform both elected Vice-Presidents; Heather Roy, Secretary General of Eurodiaconia, elected as Treasurer; and as members Michele LeVoy, Director of the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), Leo Williams Director of EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network and Shannon Pfohman Caritas Europa Policy, advocacy Director. We look forward to working with all of you to build a real social, sustainable and inclusive Europe.
