Council Conclusions for a more sustainable Europe

On 9 April, the EU Member States adopted Council Conclusions Towards an even more sustainable Europe” as a response to the European Commission’s Reflection paper "Towards a Sustainable Europe by 2030" published earlier this year (January 2019).

While the Conclusions contain various positive elements such as

  • the recognition of the need to speed up the implementation of the 2030 Agenda inside and outside the EU
  • the need “to enhance Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development (PCSD) at all levels and between all internal and external actions”
  • the call to strengthen the social dimension in line with the European Pillar of Social Rights

SOLIDAR is disappointed by the lack of a bold commitment to embrace sustainable development as the overarching framework for future EU strategic priorities. Together with SDG Watch Europe and the Make Europe Sustainable for All Campaign, SOLIDAR will keep working to put 'sustainability' at the very centre of EU polices.
