Join the call of the European Alliance for a Just Transition!

Last week marked the launch of the European Alliance for a Just Transition, an informal and diverse group of European organisations that have pledged to work together for a Just Transition in Europe. Initiated by SOLIDAR, this Alliance stems from the conviction that climate action and the fight for social justice are strongly intertwined and must advance hand in hand. Moreover, it is based on the realisation that we will be able to ensure a socially just transition to climate neutrality in Europe only if social, environmental and climate networks and movements, as well as political groups and parties, work together.

The Alliance currently consists of 25 members: SOLIDAR, Pour la Solidarité, Open Society European Policy Institute, Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Generation Climate Europe, Socialists & Democrats Group in the European Parliament (S&D), Equinox, Party of European Socialists, PES Women, Climate Action Network Europe (CAN Europe), Lifelong Learning Platform, PES Group Committee of the Regions, European Economic and Social Committee’s Workers’ Group, European Women’s Lobby, Young European Socialists, Federation of Young European Greens,  Friends of the Earth Europe, WWF European Policy Office, Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament, European Environmental Bureau (EEB), Youth and Environment Europe (YEE), European Disability Forum, Social Platform, Party of the European Left and the European Green Party.

The Alliance has recently published a Joint Declaration titled “A Call for a Just Transition to a Social and Sustainable Europe”, which calls on institutions, governments and other authorities to deliver a Just Transition now, and encourages Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders to gather in similar Alliances to demand a Just Transition and to get involved in its planning and implementation. Together with the launch event on the 28th of September, we have kicked-off a social media campaign that aims to promote the main messages of the Alliance.
