SOLIDAR members and partners promoting decent work for all in Morocco

SOLIDAR member Movement for Peace (MPDL) is working with local organisations in Morocco to promote decent work and social protection for all. In the framework of the European Commission-funded regional project “Promoting Decent work, Social Protection and Freedom of Association in the Middle East and North Africa, MPDL has organised two national workshops in Al Hoceima on 18 December 2015 and in Larache on 25 December 2016 together with the associations BADES and REMAJEC.

The two workshops were attended by trade unions, including the Confédération Démocratique du Travail (CDT), Espace Syndicale, Union Marocaine des Travailleurs (UMT) and the Fédération Démocratique du Travail (FDT). On top of that they were joined by human rights organistions such as Association Marocaine des Droits Humaines (AMDH) and the Conseil National des Droits Humaines (CNDH).

As emerged in the two workshops, the EU-Morocco Partnership should:

  • Provide full cooperation in the education field to the regionalisation process, essential for a democratic opening and sustainable growth.
  • Promote a human rights-based approach to social protection programmes.
  • Ensure the respect of fundamental rights and revise its security-based approach on migration.
  • Support the Moroccan government to: 1. establish an assessment monitoring mechanism in order to provide solutions to the most important deficiencies encountered in the access to health care services; 2. promote the development of an efficient vocational training and technical education adapted to the needs of the Moroccan economy; 3. support the implementation of the new national employment strategy towards a sustainable and inclusive growth, and 4. enhance good governance by strengthening participatory democracy and human rights.

MPDL, BADES and REMAJEC have also contributed to the SOLIDAR Social Protection Monitoring report on Morocco.
