TTIP: flaws and fallacies uncovered

After more than two years of negotiations, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) still remains a mystery/black box to most of European and US-American citizens. The lack of transparency in negotiations and absent communication strategies with the wider public have led to strong opposition against this agreement among civil society organisations, progressive political forces as well as small and medium-sized businesses and trade unions. The more details being revealed in the form of leaked documents, the more favourable the deal seems to be for big corporations and financial investors – at the cost of social cohesion, equality and economic prosperity for the 99 percent of the citizens in the US and the EU.

Collecting views of eminent experts from both sides of the Atlantic, this booklet sheds light on the many flaws and fallacies of TTIP, may they be political, technical or conceptual: the undermining of the multi-lateral trade approach, the lack of transparency, a flawed proposal for dispute settlements, dubious assumptions of economic growth and job creation, the impact on workers and the further rise of inequalities. This booklet is meant to enrich the ongoing debates on both sides of the Atlantic and to reveal the major flaws and fallacies of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, thereby making a strong case against TTIP.
