Education Policy Pill: The Aftermath of the Conference on the Future of Europe: A Turning Point for Citizenship Education?

The Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) was a citizen-led series of debates and discussions that took place from April 2021 to May 2022. People from all over the EU had the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to shaping Europe’s shared future during the Conference. As a result of the conference, 49 proposals to the President of the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission were made in a final report covering nine topics.

One of the topics concerned was education, culture, youth and sport, marking CoFoE as an important opportunity to reflect on the policy developments in the field of education. As the Conference aimed to bring EU policy and decision-making closer to all European citizens, it was also the perfect occasion to take stock of the current state of Citizenship Education in Europe and to think about the way forward.

In September, SOLIDAR Foundation interviewed MEP Domènec Ruiz Devesa, S&D Group to find out more about the CoFoE’s possible impact on Citizenship Education.
