Education Policy Pill: Digital Citizenship Education

Digital Citizenship Education (DCE) has been a topic of growing importance to the work of SOLIDAR Foundation membership, and is a key part of the network’s work on Global Citizenship Education. GCE is recognised as political education on a global scale which equips individuals to develop a sense of belonging to the global community, to engage actively and assume a participatory role in society in order to contribute to a world characterized by peace, justice, and the preservation of ecological resources.

SOLIDAR Foundation strives to achieve social justice through education, ensuring that all learners have access to quality, public education that is done in a lifelong and lifewide manner. Digital Citizenship Education and GCE are key to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that the digital transition is inclusive.

This interactive Policy Brief  gives a short overview of DCE, raises awareness on the Council of Europe’s Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025, and illustrates how SOLIDAR Foundation has been working on DCE through e.g. its advocacy work, the ECHO Network Project and the Training of trainers on Artificial Intelligence.
